Watergate Bay has been Harry Timson’s local surf break for as long as he’s been surfing, which is over 12 years – pretty impressive when you consider Harry is only 16 now.
‘Obsession’ is far too pale a word to describe how Harry feels about surfing – it is, quite simply, everything to him. Prodigiously talented on a board, Harry is already making a real mark on the world surf circuit, often winning against surfers much older and more experienced than himself.
Within the last year he has won at the VQS at Crozon, France, reached the semi-final at the VQS in Palm Beach, Avalon, Australia and won at the World Qualifier at Fraserburgh, Scotland – he’s even competed in the adult open category at the World Qualifying Series in France, surfing with the real heavy hitters of the sport. His success means he is steadily working his way up the rankings – at the time of writing, he is UK number 1 in the under 16 category, and number 22 in the world.
So what next? Harry’s going to be putting all his energy into competing on the European Pro Junior Tour for under 20s, so there’ll be plenty more travel as he works his way around the top surf competitions. You’ll be seeing a lot of Harry on websites and magazine covers in the future – this guy is really going places.
